The Alayne Hamilton Award honours vision dedication and creativity in service of ending violence in
families.
Alayne Hamilton was a passionate and skillful advocate to end violence in families. She worked
tirelessly with great vision on all aspects of her commitment to peace: from direct therapy, to systemic
change on all levels of government and society. Countless lives were touched by her incisive honesty,
forceful energy and belief in the best in people. The legacy of her vision lives on in the many lives she
touched. She savoured the world with gusto.
In November 2006, Alayne's husband, Rob Hamilton and her son, James Hamilton received a copy of the
award in honour of Alayne.

Joyce Fossella is a recognized advocate to end violence in Aboriginal and other communities. Joyce is
the Executive Director and a support group facilitator with the Warriors Against Violence Society, providing
support to men and women who have used violence in their relationship and/or been the recipient of violence.
Ms. Fossella has demonstrated a commitment to ending violence and supporting men and women in their process
of healing and recovery and has consistently and effectively assisted First Nations families unlearn abusive .
and violent behaviors and reclaim their traditional values of equality, honor and respect for themselves and
others.
